My parents came to visit this weekend, so we tried to pack as many things into two days as possible. We took a trip to IKEA, went to Mainstrasse Village’s Oktoberfest, stopped at the Ohio Book Store and went bowling in Harrison.
I know what you’re thinking: it’s too early for Oktoberfest! But it’s never too early for beer and polka music. This was Mainstrasse’s 34th year hosting the event, and it was named one of the top 20 festivals for the month of September by the Southeast Tourism Society. The whole village of Mainstrasse stayed open late all weekend to celebrate. There was live music (polka, rap and rock bands), street food, craft vendors and, of course, beer.
The highlight of the weekend for me was going to the Ohio Book Store — it has an antique lift! With five floors and thousands of books, I didn’t have nearly enough time to poke around. I’ll definitely be going back, and hopefully I’ll find copies of Wuthering Heights and Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Maybe I’ll go back next weekend and spend a few hours looking around.
